Rankings Out, UGA at #2

The ACHA has released the latest rankings, with UGA sitting at the #2 spot in the South. You can see the full rankings here: http://www.achahockey.org/page.php?page_id=7289&league_id=1063#R4

There is one more ranking due on Feb. 3. Also note that this ranking period ended prior to the Savannah tournament.

Pre-Game Notes

WTOC has posted the video feed from the game against Florida. It is available at: http://www.wtoc.com/Global/story.asp?S=7319001. We still don't know whether they will get the live feed working, so check back here or at the link above at game time to see.

The Ice Dogs are looking to rebound after a disappointing loss last night. Neither UGA nor Georgia Tech will be able to lift the Thrasher Cup tonight, but that doesn't mean either team will play with any less emotion or resolve.

There will be a change in nets tonight for the Dogs as starting goalie Harry Kierbow will be replaced in the nets with graduate student Elliot Slane. Kierbow strained his knee against Life University last month, and reportedly hasn't fully recovered. Kierbow is scheduled for a pre-op examination and potential surgery in the coming weeks. Often times we hear about players playing injured during tournaments, and Kierbow is no exception. Kierbow has been a regular fixture in the net for Georgia in the past 4 years, and some would say the backbone of the team. He's hopeful to return to action in time for the South Division Regional Tournament or the National Tournament, if UGA is invited to participate.

The puck drops at 8:30pm tonight. If you're in Savannah, don't forget to wear black to BLACKOUT SAVANNAH!

Ice Dogs drop 7-6 Overtime Decision to Florida

In what was a hard fought game, the Ice Dogs dropped a decision to the University of Florida Gators in overtime. Also losing last night were the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. In almost every other year the tournament has taken place, Georgia plays Georgia Tech for the Thrasher Cup. But not this year. This year the cup will be awarded to either the University of Florida or Florida State. According to Ice Dogs Head Coach John Hoos, this is the first time those two teams have played for the cup. Tonight the Dogs will take on Georgia Tech. The puck drops at 8:30. We're still not sure if WTOC will be able to broadcast the game live, so check back here at game time for more information.

Webcast Delayed

Well it appears that WTOC experienced technical difficulties publishing the webcast this evening. They say they'll have it uploaded after the game.

Also I was planning to drive down to cover the games, but unfortunately ran into car problems. I'm trying to make it down for tomorrow night's game, but it depends on how fast I can get my car fixed. I apologize for the confusion for those of you who were looking forward to the enhanced coverage this evening. Hopefully things will work out better for tomorrow night's big game against Georgia Tech. And for anyone in Savannah, don't forget to wear black to BLACKOUT SAVANNAH!

Can't make it to the games this weekend? Don't worry, you can still stay up to date with the Ice Dogs and take part in all the action right from your computer. Be sure to visit WTOC, who is providing a webcast of all the games this weekend. Word is they have a 5-camera operation! Exciting!

The Ice Dogs are shooting for a 5th straight Thrasher cup this weekend. With 4 straight previous victories, and 5 overall victories, the Dogs certainly have momentum on their side. But earlier this season the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets stunned an undefeated UGA team with a 5-0 upset. Also earlier this season UGA narrowly defeated the University of Florida in a 7-6 shootout win. What does this mean for the dogs? Simply put, they'll have to earn every goal and play a smart couple of games if they want to bring the Thrasher Cup back to Athens.

The Dogs split last weekend's games against Tennessee and East Carolina, losing 8-4 only to rebound the following night with a resounding 9-5 barnburner, respectively.
